Job Description:
An Instrumentation Technician III for Downstream Services Inc.
, under general supervision, performs skilled duties in the design, construction, installation, modification, calibration, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical and electronic control systems and related devices used in the storage, pumping and distribution of wastewater and potable water.
Requirements:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Troubleshoots new control and communication systems and installations.
Performs project management on special projects.
Modifies, installs and supports PLC-based controls and instrumentation logic.
Plans and completes jobs from drawings, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions.
Tests, troubleshoots, calibrates, programs and performs preventive maintenance on:
PLCs, HMIs, Power Supplies, Relays, Contactors, Motor Starters, Circuit Breakers, Switches Pumps, 1 and 3 Phase Motors, Motor Wiring Valves and Valve Actuators Flow, Pressure, Temperature, pH, ORP, DO, Ultrasonic/Submersible/Radar Level Sensors, Float Switches Storage Batteries and Charging Circuitry Designs, installs, configures, and diagnoses ethernet, radio, and fiber-optic networks.
Diagnoses and repairs electrical conductors and components < 600 VAC.
Makes additions, extensions and modifications in electrical systems, including transformers, generators, conduits, conductors, wires, relays and pull boxes.
Disconnects electrical sources, uses lockout/tagout procedures.
Reads and interprets as-built drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs.
Provides advanced technical assistance, training and guidance to other employees.
Develops, reviews and updates written maintenance instructions, manuals and schedules.
Knowledge of:
Single and three phase AC and DC electrical power systems below 600 volts.
Industrial automation and control systems including SCADA, PLCs and motor controls.
Electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics along with the mathematics commonly used in each field.
Programming and diagnosing PLC ladder logic, RTU configuration, instruments, actuators and VFDs.
Ohm's Law and practical application thereof.
Computation of volume, flow, pressure and electric power.
Common computer network protocols including Ethernet, USB, HTTP, and serial networks.
Safety practices and regulations pertaining to the work.
Windows-based computers, computer hardware and Microsoft Office.
Codes, ordinances, OSHA, EPA and other regulations and specifications pertaining to the work.
Ability to:
Work after hours including evenings and weekends.
Work with wastewater and wastewater pumping systems.
Work out-of-town, and drive for several hours to the jobsite.
Lead a project with a crew of up to 5 people.
Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED -and- 5 years of proven and verifiable work experience in this capacity.
Or a California State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade 2 (D2) Or a California State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Operator Certificate, Grade 2 (T2) Or a CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist Grade 3 Certificate Additional post-secondary school technical education or graduation from a related trade school can be used to substitute one year of experience.

Pay Scale:
The listed pay scale is a wide range because compensation is heavily dependent upon the applicants prior experience.
We understand this is a niche industry and not many applicants will have all the of the experience required, but we are looking for those that have a strong basis to build upon, with provided on the job training.
